Another Rejection

Thursday, October 31st, 2002

Dear Onyx,

Sorry to have troubled you again. I used to keep a file of people I already contacted. But user names change so much [...] that it got to be more trouble than it was worth.

Also, people change. What a person desires today may not be what they desire a few months down the road. So I do periodically re-contact people I’ve talked with before, just in case they have rethought their positions. I try not to do it too often – say once every couple months. However if this bothers you, you can block me to keep my emails from reaching you.

Take care, and happy Halloween!

On Beth’s Nude Pics

Tuesday, October 8th, 2002

Dear Beth,

Okay, I was able to see the pics, although I didn’t go into the “adult” area. I’d rather wait until we’ve gotten to know each other enough to exchange intimate details like nude pics. :) Besides, pics almost never tell the whole story about the person. I’d much rather wait until a time, far down the road, when it would be appropriate to see you in person, in the nude – after we’ve been dating a little while.

Anyway, if you want to talk on the phone, that can be arranged. Just let me know.

Take care,
Tom Hesley

Dear Beth

Hi Beth.

What is your user name on match.com? I can check my records if I know it and see if I can remember you that way.

By the way, I just visited your site. The pics on the initial page did not display. Perhaps my company network security system is blocking them. I’ll try to access them via a direct connection to the Internet.

Well, gotta run for now. Write back.

Dear Christine

Tuesday, October 8th, 2002

Hi Christine.

Nice to hear from you. The book is keeping me busy. Spending lots of time thinking about it and generating angles and ideas to write into it. And, there have been many tasks to complete around the house here before the cold weather sets in. No writer’s block so far. I just need to start doing it full-time as soon as I get enough money saved (end of next year hopefully).

Congratulations on passing the CSR course ! What is your new work schedule these days?

You can call me any evening after about 8:00. If you call before that, you may get me but chances are that I’ll be outside working on the yard or something. It would be nice to talk to you on the phone.

To be frank, I’m not as into this email thing as a way of getting to know people, as I thought I would be when I first signed up with match.com. I have to write so much email at work (between 20 to 30 messages a day) that by the time the end of the workday arrives, the thought of sending more email to ladies at night just doesn’t seem all that appealing. Nothing against you of course. But I’m definitely ready to move off of email and onto the phone. I guess I’m just suffering email burnout. :)

My phone number is 814-742-xxxx.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hey Pat

Monday, October 7th, 2002

Dear Pat,

[Pat from camp left me her phone number.]

Hi again.

I’ll call you either this week or next.

You won’t win the hike next year. I’m not going to go easy on you anymore.

Yes, I’d like to help you in your research. Sounds like it could be quite insightful.

I am writing a book myself. More on that when we talk.

We’re all getting ready for the winter retreat at camp, from December 5th through the 8th.

I miss you, my favorite hiker. :-)   You made the 2001 camp session so memorable. Next time we walk, let’s walk together.

Talk to you soon,
Tom Hesley

Polling Lisa Again

Friday, October 4th, 2002

Hey there, Lisa.

This is Tom, from Altoona. How are you doing? Hope all is well for you. Haven’t talked to you in a while. Remember me from match.com?

Anyway, I wanted to check in and see if you were available for more conversation. I enjoyed our last talk, in June.

Talk to you later,
Tom Hesley

Polling Pat

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2002

Dear [Pat],

Hey, how are you doing? What’s going on with you these days? We really missed you at camp this summer. [Jack] and I finished first in the hike. 95 degrees it was, and it was great fun.

Anyway, would you send along your phone number? I’d like to chat with you live.

Later,
Tom Hesley
