The Perfect Lid for the Pot
Dear [Mentat],
Yes. However, when it comes to finding that perfect lid for a pot, competition can only achieve so much. Sometimes, people are just meant for each other, even when numerous other opportunities abound. They stick together, no matter how much competition there is. Perhaps you are the missing [lid] for that woman’s pot.
I’ve been reading some philosophy on the limitations of Darwinism. Natural selection by no means adequately explains the whole set of human nature. It assumes that the goal of most people is the healthy perpetuation of the race and that they’ll choose the best mates for that objective. That appears to be true when considering the whole group. However, individuals very often behave in ways that counter natural selective tendencies. I don’t understand all this very well yet. But I’m eagerly flipping the pages, hoping to find an adequate refutation of that book I mentioned reading earlier this year, Survival of the Prettiest, that one that depressed me so because it seemed to paint such a dismal picture of mating prospects for the handicapped.
That is an interesting question though, of why a sighted woman’s affections mean more than a blind woman’s. I believe it to be true too, generally, but cannot as of yet explain adequately. I’ll give it more thought.
