No Guarantees: 2009-05-14
The chat group and I were debating over how much control we humans can have over the happiness we derive from a lover. They hammered me for looking for too much the perfect woman and they said that I could only guarantee myself just so much happiness via the selection process. So I wrote back to them the following:
No. I’m not looking for guarantees. But I am looking to maximize my chances of finding lasting happiness and fulfillment.
Wow. It seems that we’re in agreement about relationships being risky and that you must take risks when involving yourself in them.
My point in all this is that you can only minimize the risks so much with due diligence. Even if you take every precaution possible to pick someone nice, they can at times, still turn out quite bad. It seemed that you weren’t getting that before. But now you are, and I’m happy.
